The tubular flowers grow to 3cm long (that's big for a hyssop) and come in a pinkish-purple shade with brownish-red calyces. They form in clusters on the top of upright spikes from mid summer and will last for several months. The scented foliage has minty-lemon overtones and is deeply notched around the edges. Taller than most this works well towards the middle of a herbaceous border.

  • Garden care: Avoid the temptation to cut back the faded flower-stems in autumn since they provide interest in the winter months. Lift and divide congested colonies in spring.
