This pretty perennial spreads via underground rhizomes to form elegant clumps of grey-green grass-like foliage that has an upright habit. From early to midsummer, branching stems reach just above the foliage and carry lots of starry white flowers in airy sprays. The flowers make way to small but attractive brown fruits. A native of open grassland and scrub, it associates really well with grasses in prairie-style planting schemes but also adds a touch of elegance to herbaceous borders. This is an easy plant to grow in a sunny spot with reasonably well drained soil.
- Garden care: Lift and divide over-large clumps in early spring as new growth begins.
