Hello Cheryl,
I'm assuming the new flower is on a seperate stem. If so, cut off the spent flower and the stem at the base which will concentrate the plant's energies into the development of the new flower and subsequent new flowers. This is just dead-heading, as you would with many other plants, promoting the development of more flowers rather than the development of seed.
