Top 15 Winter Plants

Countryside in snowMany plants can still add interest to a garden in Winter

The Gardening Guru selects 15 top plants that brighten up the winter.

Winter does not have to be cold, damp and dreary in the garden. Careful plant selection can brighten up any garden and transform it into a year round spectacle.

Over the years I have seen many plants that display their best characteristics during December, January and February in UK gardens. This is my opportunity to share with you what I consider to be my favourite top 15 plants for a winter garden.

Included in the list are plants that flower when you least expect them to, not during a barmy summer season but in the deepest depths of the coldest winters. There are plants that have amazingly colourful stems that rise up from the ground like the flames of a cosy winter fire. There are trees with wonderfully colourful textured bark.

I have also included some of the very established winter favourites that everybody seems to like. They are popular because they are very colourful, reliable and easy to grow.

If you are brave enough to venture out into the garden rather than just admire the plants from the comfort of your living room then I have included some plants that will give your nose a treat with their wonderfully fragrant winter flowers.

So here goes, my Top 15 Winter Plants, enjoy!
